Child & Family Serives of Northwstern Michigan

Helped raise more than $15,000 through online fundraiser.

After coronavirus panic took root and everyone was locked in their homes, I kept my professional responsibilities active by volunteering with Child & Family Services of Northwestern Michigan to update the copy on their website. This grew into a top-level website redesign project and the #GivingTuesdayNow digital donation drive which raised more than $15,000 while in-person fundraisers were not possible.

I originally found CFSNwMi through a skills-based volunteering service called Catchafire. I connected with Melissa Ryba, the orgniazation’s Marketing and Communications Supervisor, who was looking for a copywriter to assist with new outreach efforts to potential donors now that live, in-person fundraising had been halted. I rewrote pages that explained the various services that the organization provided and created a more comprehensive web experience for prospective donors.

Pleased with the initial projects outcome, Melissa asked if I could continue optimizing the website, this time overseeing a redesign based on new branding for the organization, as well as help strategize an online-only donation campaign. The result of those efforts was a new, beautiful website and more than $15,000 raised during its Giving Tuesday campaign in the Summer of 2020.

"Travis was a great resource for our agency. He thoroughly evaluated our website copy and made improvements. He also evaluated our digital content presentation on the site and made improvements to several pages to help ensure that people visiting our site are finding the information they are looking for. The impact of this volunteer work from Travis is significant for our agency. Particularly more than ever we need to reach people through our website and Travis provided thoughtful, innovative, and timely input. I would highly recommend Travis."
