American Marketing Association Austin

Vice President of Communications, 2022-2023 Board Year

I joined the Austin chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA Austin) in the spring of 2020, back when Zoom calls were the new happy hour and sweatpants counted as business casual. Originally, I was just a marketer looking for networking opportunities, but apparently, AMA Austin saw something special and invited me to join the volunteer committee as Director of Event Communication.

My first task? Helping AMA Austin pivot into the brave new world of COVID-inspired virtual events. I built event landing pages and registration forms like a digital architect with too much Adderall, wrote event outlines and snappy copy to keep audiences hooked, and put my social media chops to work to make sure every virtual panel had the hype it deserved. If there was a box for “promotional content wizardry,” I was ticking it off with flair.

Over the next few years, my responsibilities grew faster than my social media dependency. As Vice President of Communications & PR, I took the reins of AMA Austin’s brand voice and communications strategy. Think of it like turning a megaphone into a conversation. I kept our messaging sharp, our social feeds lively, and our emails worth opening (a small miracle in most inboxes).

What I Did:

  • Strategic Messaging: Led all external communications, ensuring AMA Austin sounded as professional and polished as it did fun and approachable.
  • Content Management: From newsletters to social media, I kept the information flowing and the audience engaged.
  • Event Promotion: Drove attendance for our events through creative marketing campaigns that made “marketing people talking about marketing” sound like the can’t-miss occasion of the season.
  • Public Relations: Amplified the chapter’s presence in Austin’s marketing community, fostering connections and partnerships along the way.

What I Achieved:

  • Increased event attendance and engagement through targeted messaging that connected with our community.
  • Boosted AMA Austin’s social media presence and follower count, proving that marketing marketers is as meta as it gets.
  • Helped the chapter navigate and thrive through a period of virtual-first events, all while keeping the vibe upbeat and approachable.

AMA Austin gave me a platform to do what I do best: bring stories to life, make marketing fun, and find the punchline that turns a message into a memory. It also taught me the value
